Your scar needs to be fully healed and stable in color; for surgical scars, that means a minimum of six months after surgery. Flat or slightly raised scars are the usual fit. If your scar is thick or raised, Scar Tissue Loosening can be recommended before camouflage is considered.
For breast-related scarring, this service addresses scar color matching. A 3D areola is a separate service and is not included in scar camouflage.
How the technique works
Treatment begins with an in-depth color analysis in natural daylight, fluorescent light, and warm light. The team maps the scar boundary and develops a pigment formula for your skin tone.
The pigment is custom-mixed chairside rather than taken from a pre-made palette. Olive N Sage Beauty Bar uses Artemis and Get Blended Inks clinical-grade pigments formulated for skin-tone matching. Scar camouflage is not a traditional body-art tattoo: tattoo ink and a tattoo gun are not used.
During treatment, the custom pigment is precisely deposited into scar tissue with a medical-grade tattoo machine. The appointment is listed as 90–120 minutes. Treatment is directed at blending the scar color with the surrounding skin tone.
Session planning and healing timeline
Plan for one to two sessions. The first conversation establishes whether the scar is healed and stable enough for camouflage, then considers its location, boundary, color, and texture. If texture needs attention first, the plan can direct you to Scar Tissue Loosening before color-matching work begins.
A treatment visit includes scar mapping, formula development, chairside pigment mixing, and pigment placement. The working appointment is 90–120 minutes. Your proposed plan and price are discussed at consultation.
After pigment placement, the final color settles over four to six weeks. There is no separate numerical healing schedule provided for every scar. Your written individualized aftercare plan sets return timing and gives you the steps to follow as the treated area settles.
Aftercare
You will receive written, individualized aftercare instructions for the treatment area. Keep the area clean and do not pick at it while it is healing. Follow the plan you are given rather than applying a general routine from another treatment or another person’s experience.
Before you leave, discuss the sun, friction, and water restrictions that apply to your scar location and daily routine. A tummy tuck scar, breast scar, and burn scar can sit in different areas of movement or clothing contact, so this conversation belongs in your individual plan.
